New Magnet Train

Goldenrod and the stations look much better. First impressions are important. Hur.

More tall grass and trees.

More Pokémon cameos than before! They’re all 2-dimensional, though. I did originally intend to do 3D ones, but this way allows for more of them, much less work on my behalf, and they’re all far enough away from the stage and on screen for little enough time that it doesn’t matter.

Lots of shiny lights

Fog ‘n forests

The things reflected in the water were made bluer, with a blue fog effect instead of the orangish one that most of the background has. Makes the water itself appear bluer.

Viridian mostly hasn’t changed, but there are far more trees in the forest now.

Birds from hell

Saffron! Saffron! The accent is on the F

P’much the same

P’different

The gym emblem thing rotates

And lights pulse through it like in the stripe on the train. I dunno what the purple finger-y things are supposed to be, really, I borrowed the idea from Melee’s Battlefield.

This is all ignoring that the Magnet Train was obsolete in HGSS, since you could fly to Indigo Plateau from anywhere, and to anywhere from Indigo Plateau.

But for everyone in Brawl/Project M who is not a Pokémon trainer, I’m sure it’s appreciated.

“Bye Ganondorf! I’ll try to miss you!”

Try and focus on the fight. As much work has gone into it… it’s all just a background, after all.

I’m messing with Magnet Train

I feel like it needs it. I did work hard on the original, but not hard enough. And I’ve learned a lot of things since then that this one deserves, for the concept and for the work that has already been put into it.

So far I’ve added to the train itself, and to the greater components of the background–the more organic stuff, I mean.

Now there are little lights on top. Maybe they make for a little more clarity, but the idea was mostly to make the ground less boring.

Further down, the train has more geometry. The windows and doors are extruded into the cars, and so is the stripe along the side.

a light pulses through the stripe. You won’t see that most of the time because it’s further down, but when the camera zooms out a bit, it does show up.

The window glows have a sliver of light on the edges in these pictures, I know. I will fix that.

there are lights in the tunnels too. They look quite cool in-game while the stage is moving.

trees and fog around the base of Mt. Silver, and rocky ledges. A Pokémon Center will be here too.

You’ve probably also noticed different foliage in the background, and more of it. It’s all 2-dimensional now, which allows for more of it. The game’s fog system makes for a really nice atmospheric perspective around Viridian in particular.

The smaller cities look fine already but I am going to overhaul Goldenrod, Celadon and Saffron. I also want to add more pokémon cameos like the Snorlax, but I’m more than likely not going to animate them because they’ll only be on-screen for a second at a time anyway.

Nothing in the pictures is absolutely final.

Parachute

When I was a kid I didn’t recognize most of the characters in Super Smash Bros. or Melee. Because, like most kids whose parents don’t play video games, I usually had to wait for birthdays and Christmases to get new games. So naturally I wanted to be safe and go with Mario and Pokémon, since I already knew I’d like those.

But I did have a special moment when I unlocked Mr. Game & Watch in Melee, because I really did know who he was and didn’t already know he was in SSBM. Because I had Game & Watch Gallery 2 for my Game Boy Color instead of Super Mario Land 2 for whatever reason.

Which may be just as well, because when I did first play SML2, Wario kinda freaked me out.

So, Mr. Game & Watch has always been a character I sometimes use. So, I’ve gone ahead and made a stage for him that isn’t full of bullshit.

Using Flat Zone 2’s Game & Watch model as a frame. The death lines are past its edges.

The grassy bits are just background. Only the blackest parts are touchable–the boat and the platforms.

The parachute guys and the miss counter are animated. It’s a basic loop because the boat doesn’t move and so the guy on the left always dies. Just like in real life

Minish Bar

It’s a Smash stage. Based on Minish Cap.

It’s full of candles and crap

You can fight on it. That’s the point

The background is Telma’s Bar from Twilight Princess. I want to add background characters down there too, but I’m getting close to a limit… playing Project M on the Wii U, I’ve noticed framerate issues some of my previous stages had (Bowser’s Castle especially) when more than two or three players were in them that I didn’t notice on the Wii. I’m pleased to report this one doesn’t have any noticeable framerate drops until you have, say, three or four pairs of Ice Climbers. So, don’t play on this stage if you main Ice Climbers and have quadruplets who also main Ice Climbers.

The counter… the counter is made of… eheh

The Mountain Minish’s design was pulled from the manga.

And most of the others were made uppppppppp

Link, what was that? Milk? Can you get tipsy drinking a thing like milk?

And are you sure this is your stage at all? Hmm…

Say…cheese

I drew these with a sharpie because that’s all I have here and now

I played Pikmin last week. I failed it the first time, picked it up again the next day and got the best ending. I really, really, really, REALLY liked it. I can’t think of many things it didn’t do successfully. And yes–I liked the time limit, tied a nice ribbon around the package that gave everything else some real meaning. Now I’m in Minish Cap on Wii U (so there’ll be posts from that). An appreciation for the smaller, fictional things in life is important

And, who I want to play most in Smash Bros. Also Bowser… Couldn’t fit him in there. Pikachu is a mainstay for me as well but he’s like the Italian food of Smash Bros. Even if you really like it and it’s a little bit better than normal this time, it’s still hardly surprising. You know what you’re gonna get, more or less. It’s almost disappointing he’s in the demo for that reason, instead offffffffffff idunnogreninjamaybe
